Open the Layout for Your Event
What we need to open our layout to the public during an event at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.
The Nevada County Narrow Gauge Historical Model Railroad is an all-volunteer group founded in 1986 to preserve local rail history. Our layout is a permanent display at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, and we are glad to open it to the public during fairgrounds events. If you are organizing an event here and would like the layout open, a few basic needs help make that possible.
For our volunteers
- Event admission for volunteers
Complimentary event admission for the volunteers who staff the layout during your event.
- Volunteer parking access
Parking close enough to allow setup, shift changes, and a safe end-of-day departure.
For our visitors
- Inside the event footprint
Our building kept within the active event footprint, so attendees can find and reach us rather than being cordoned off from the flow of the event.
- A modest suggested donation
Permission to accept a small suggested donation toward upkeep from visitors who wish to give.
How we operate
- We staff the layout with trained volunteers during posted hours.
- We follow the applicable Fairgrounds and event safety, setup, and cleanup requirements.
- We keep the space family-friendly and welcoming to all ages.
Mutual benefits
- A family-friendly attraction that keeps people at your event longer.
- A tie to local heritage that draws train enthusiasts, families, and history lovers.
- Community goodwill and cross-promotion between your event and our historical group.
