About the N.C.N.G. Layout

A volunteer-built, operating On3 scale model railroad at the Nevada County Fairgrounds since 1986.

Why We Built It

Interpreting the Original Railroad

The layout interprets the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad through an operating On3 scale model. The original line ran from Colfax to Nevada City by way of Chicago Park and Grass Valley, carrying passengers, freight, and mining supplies through western Nevada County.

Volunteers research, build, wire, maintain, and operate the layout so visitors can see the trains, structures, and local scenes together instead of only reading about them.
